Course Description

Most of contemporary work is structured in teams. In fact, at work, an individual might be a member of multiple teams. As such, knowledge of team dynamics, how to lead teams effectively, and how to be a contributing team member are all skills that should benefit individuals at work. Similarly, the inability to function effectively on teams, the inability to lead teams, and the failure to understand team dynamics can be liabilities to individuals at work.

This course addresses the basics of team dynamics and team leadership to equip individuals with valuable skills for working with teams. Specifically, the course introduces participants to two frameworks through which they might better understand team dynamics. The first is the Stage of Group Development. This framework illustrates the different phases a team might go through during its existence. To help the audience better understand this framework, practical phrases or conversations to use at each stage of the model are included.

The second framework is the Six Hats of Creative Thinking. This framework not only introduces the audience to difference roles on teams, it also illustrates how team leadership can be shared among all members of a team to function more effectively, fostering healthy disagreement and keeping discussions on track. Through an explanation of each different component of this framework, participants should also be equipped with stock phrases to use when adopting each mode of thinking.

At the end of this course, participants should have a firm grasp on both of these frameworks around team dynamics and be able to think critically about how they can be applied effectively at work.
