Course Description
For much of the last few decades, transit-oriented land use planning has been understood as locating dense development next to ‘charismatic’ transit services. This approach has generated many successful places, but it has not always led to making transit more useful or liberating, and it is sometimes in tension with goals of equity and social justice.
This course offers an alternative approach, one where access to destinations via transit is the primary focus of land use planning. The key to this approach lies in locating and planning development to maximize access to opportunities using sustainable modes, including micromobility for shorter trips and transit for longer ones.
