Course Description

In 1996, California became the first state to legalize marijuana for medical use. By 2019, 10 states plus the District of Columbia had made it lawful for adults to buy and use marijuana for recreational use, and 23 more had legalized medical use. As states continue to legalize marijuana, particularly for adult recreational use, local governments increasingly face decisions about how to treat marijuana businesses. This course examines the role of local regulation in states that have legalized marijuana.

This was a very pertinent course subject. I particularly thought the section on equity partnerships was constructive and addresses the inequities that with which this subject and the history around it is fraught.
