In Urban Sustainability Appraisal Tools for Communities and Existing Neighborhoods, Eliot Allen, Course Instructor, explores the concept, intent, process, and scope of four types of Urban sustainability tools in which neighborhood groups and communities substantially form, operate, manage and assess the efforts and results each organization. This approach differs from municipally based sustainability efforts in that they are initiated and operated by private entities, yet collaboration with municipal entities is often part of the work. He breaks down the purpose and focus of tools using numerous examples and interviews with two organizations’ directors. Eliot emphasizes that these tools are more effective for neighborhood areas of communities. This was an inspiring course!
